Why Applied Textile Research Needs a Manufacturing Lens

ABSTRACT
Textile research creates the greatest practical value when material structure, testing, manufacturing conditions and end use are considered together. This founding editorial sets out the scope and working principles of the Journal of Applied Textiles.
Textiles are experienced as surfaces, but they are engineered as systems. Fibre choice, yarn construction, weave, finishing, printing, sewing and care all influence how a material performs in use.
A journal built around application
The Journal of Applied Textiles has been established to create a clear home for work that connects measurable evidence with industrial decisions. We welcome studies of textile structures, functional finishes, coloration and printing, circular materials, interior and hospitality textiles, manufacturing quality, and test methods.
Evidence before promotion
Commercial relevance does not replace scientific discipline. Submissions should distinguish observations from claims, describe methods sufficiently for evaluation, disclose limitations and conflicts of interest, and avoid presenting marketing language as research evidence.
Founding phase
The journal is in its founding phase. Editorials are clearly labelled and are not presented as peer-reviewed research. Publication identifiers, indexing claims and formal review infrastructure will only be displayed after they genuinely exist.
